This year the 1st grade level is trying to save paper and copies. We believe that your child can practice necessary skills in order to be successful in school without always doing homework on worksheets. We came up with a system in which your child will only be bringing home worksheets twice a week. The homework for the rest of the week will be completed in the skills log, using technology, or little readers.
Monday: Skills Log: The skills log is a composition notebook with several skills on a grid. Please have your child go through each grid and practicing identifying either the letter, number, sight word, cvc word, or other skill that the grid may be asking for. On the Left hand page, please make comments on how your child did with each grid. If your child has mastered a grid, please move on to the next grid. Please do not work on the skills log for more than 15 minutes. The goal is for your child to practice different skills without getting frustrated. Please bring the skills log into the classroom every Friday so that I can test your child and put additional skills in the log. I will try to send the skills log home with new skills every Monday.
Tuesday: Google Classroom/Seesaw Assignment
Wednesday: Sight word practice
Thursday: Tech Thursday & iReady: Please have your child go on any device for about 15 minutes and play an educational game. If you need suggestions on what they can do, please look at the online resources page on my webpage and have your child play any game that is listed on that page. If you need your child's login for iready, please let me know.
Friday: I can Read Books, Read to Me, Family Time: Please read any book with your child. You can read it first, then they can try to read it or they can try to read it first. If your child is memorizing the story, try to cover the pictures so that they are only reading the words and are not depending on the pictures. Your child also has an monthly reading log. This is for them to pick a book that they want read to them. When you read the book they want (maybe a bedtime story), please log it on the read to me log.
