Kindergarten Curriculum
When I think back to my kindergarten year in school, from what I remember, there was more of an emphasis on social development (sharing, getting along with others, and lots of play). These elements are still seen in our kindergarten classrooms, but due to the high expectations of our students, our day is full of academic activities. We try to incorporate a curriculum that infuses the 3 R's, Rigor, Relevance, and Relationships. Our kindergarten curriculum is aligned with the Common Core Standards. These standards are embedded throughout the day through Interdisciplinary Units.
Kindergarten and the Common Core Standards
Our language arts and math standards derive from the Common Core (CC) Standards. Forty-five states have adopted these Standards into their curriculum. The benefit of teaching the CC Standards is that our children will learn the same curriculum as their peers in other states. Since our school services a transient population, the aligned curriculum should alleviate any anxiety over being "behind" in another state's school curriculum.
